"FRACTICS"
The new summer 2009 collection called “Fractics” is inspired by fractal geometry.
A fractal is a geometric object which appears to be 'broken up' in a radical way. Fractals are said to possess infinite detail, and they may actually have a self-similar structure that occurs at different levels of magnification. Although new details always appear when enlarging the fractals, the same details always return in the fractals. Even the most simple system becomes complicated if repeated. A lot of forms in nature show characteristics of fractals.
She translated this into a very graphical and geometrical collection with prints of repeated patterns like for instance multiple repeated stars of david. The geometry comes back in all the items by divided parts and shapes created by cord. Flat pleats are used next to fluent pleats which can be seen as a repeated pattern as well. Some details of previous collections are repeated, like the use of cord and tunnels for instance which are used to contribute to the geometrical aspect of this collection. The broken aspect comes back in vests, where you can see the cord coming out and going into the vest again by parts that are cut out. Repeated knotting techniques are used in necklaces and details. Hoods come back as well. In unexpected ways, for instance as pockets in a skirt and as a collar/pouch in a top.
This collection has very fresh summer colours like different shades of purple, faded pink, shades of light orange and basic colours as black, grey and white. The fabrics used for this collection are jerseys, sweat fabric, woven cotton, silk and denim.
